OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater Chair Review

OZtrail Galaxy 2 seater padded camping chair on red dirt among gum trees at Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges
On this page

Most camp chairs keep you an arm’s length apart. The OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater is a padded double camp chair: one seat for two, with a cup holder at each end, made for sitting with your partner at the campfire. I paid $120 for it and tried it in the Flinders Ranges, at Wilpena Pound Caravan Park.

What You’re Getting

A folding two-seater on a steel frame, with quilted blue padding inside and grey marl fabric outside. Each arm has a cup holder with a fabric pouch underneath, and there are mesh pockets built into the back. It folds up like a normal camp chair and comes with a carry bag. If there are three of you, OZtrail also makes a 3-seater version of the Galaxy.

Comfort

The seat is quilted and padded, in two layers of polyester, and it’s one wide seat rather than two chairs joined together. You sit side by side, and it’s snug. A support pole in the middle of the front edge splits it into two seats, so you sit either side of it rather than in the middle. That works, especially if you want to sit with your partner at the campfire. It’s less great when you’re having dinner, or when you’re sharing it with friends you’re not so close to. The seat is also pretty low, so pair it with the right table: our folding table was a bit too high for the Galaxy. A low camp table suits it better; see our best camping tables.

Cup holders and pocket

Each arm has a hard plastic cup holder with a keyhole-shaped slot, which OZtrail says takes the stem of a wine glass. Under each cup holder hangs a fabric pouch that holds a can or bottle. Built into the back are two mesh pockets, one behind each seat, for the small things you want at hand. Those are the only pockets, though: there are no side pockets beyond the pouches under the cup holders.

Frame and packing

The frame is folding, powder-coated steel rated to carry 240 kg in total (120 kg per seat), with X-braces under the seat and vertical stabilisers in the legs to stop it rocking, and plastic feet. A lock holds it open once it’s set up. It folds together like a normal camp chair and goes into its carry bag.

The downside of a chair for two is the size: it’s quite bulky, weighs 6.1 kg and packs to about 94 × 22 × 18 cm. That’s fine in the back of a 4WD, but it’s not one to carry far from the car.

Conclusion: OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater Chair

The OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater is a padded double camp chair: one quilted seat for two, a cup holder with a pouch in each arm, rear mesh pockets and a folding steel frame with leg stabilisers. It’s heavy for a camp chair at 6.1 kg and long when packed, so it stays with the car. It’s snug, which is great with your partner at the campfire and less so at dinner or with friends, the seat is low enough that it needs a low table, and it’s quite bulky. For the $120 I paid, it’s a cosy way for two to sit together by the fire.

The verdict

A snug, padded two-seater camp chair with a cup holder in each arm and rear mesh pockets, great for two by the campfire.

Quite bulky, and 6.1 kg.

Best for
  • Couples
  • Car campers
  • 4WD tourers
Worth the money?Value 86/100

Yes, if you camp as a couple from the car and want to sit together by the fire. I paid $120. For dinner or with friends, separate chairs work better.

Frequently asked questions

6.1 kg, according to the listing. It packs into a carry bag of about 94 × 22 × 18 cm, so it’s a chair for the car rather than for carrying far.
Does the OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater have cup holders?
Yes, one in each arm, each with a fabric pouch underneath. OZtrail calls them insulated drink holders, with a slot for a wine glass.
How much weight does the OZtrail Galaxy 2 Seater hold?
240 kg in total, according to the listing: plenty for two adults.
How high is the seat?
Pretty low: about 42 cm, with a seat depth of about 54 cm, according to the listing. Pair it with a low camp table; our standard folding table was a bit too high for it.
