A good camp chair is one you don’t want to get out of, and it helps if the cold drinks are within reach. The Wanderer Premium Cooler Arm Chair puts a zippered cooler in one arm and a double drink holder in the other. We paid $60 for ours as a BCF club member and used it on a recent trip to The Pines campground in Olney State Forest.

Comfort

It’s a great chair, and the reason is simple: it’s ultra comfy. The seat is oversized and padded, the back is high, and the arms are wide enough to rest on properly. It’s a chair for people who will sit for a long time, like anglers waiting on a bite or anyone settling in by the fire for the evening.

The armrests are adjustable in height. Each one hangs from a strap with a buckle at the back of the chair, so you can raise or lower the arms to where your elbows rest comfortably.

The cooler arm

The zippered cooler bag in the arm is fantastic. It’s insulated, with a silver lining, and it keeps drinks very cool for a few hours. It’s also bigger than it looks: it fits a whole beer bottle plus some cans, so you can stock it once and stay put.

Duo drink holder and pockets

The other armrest has a duo drink holder: two openings side by side. It’s very handy, because it isn’t only for drinks. One side holds your can or bottle, and the other takes your phone or other small gear.

Below the arm hangs a mesh side pocket with two compartments, big enough for a drink bottle, sunscreen or a book. A bottle opener is attached to the chair on a cord, so it’s there when you need it.

Frame and build

The frame is powder-coated steel in a quad-fold design: the legs cross over each other and the whole chair pulls open in one movement. Green hubs tie the crossed legs together, and it’s rated to 120 kg.

Each leg ends in a wide, round foot. That’s an anti-sink design: the bigger footprint spreads your weight, so the legs don’t dig into soft ground like sand, mud or wet grass the way thin chair legs do.

The seat and back are polyester, padded and quilted, in olive green with grey panels.

Packed size and packing up

This is the trade-off for all that comfort. The chair is a bit bulky when packed: about 96 cm long and 18 cm across, at 4.1 kg.

It can also be slightly harder to get back into the carry bag than a plain chair. The zippered cooler arm, the drink holder and the side pocket all have to be tucked neatly into the folded frame, so that nothing sticks out, before the bag will slide over. Once you’ve done it a couple of times it goes quicker.

The carry bag has a shoulder strap, which helps with the weight on the walk from the car to the water or the fire.

So it’s a chair for people with space: in a van, a ute or a car that isn’t packed to the roof.

Conclusion: Wanderer Premium Cooler Arm Chair

The Wanderer Premium Cooler Arm Chair is a great chair. It’s ultra comfy, the zippered cooler arm keeps drinks very cool for a few hours and fits a whole beer bottle plus some cans, and the duo drink holder on the other arm is very handy for a drink and a phone. It’s a bit bulky when packed, and it takes some care to tuck everything in and get it back into the carry bag. I paid $60 for it at the BCF club price. For people with space, and for those who sit for a long time like anglers, it’s a very good buy.

The verdict
