Some camp chairs are built to pack small. The OZtrail Getaway Chair is built to sit in: a padded armchair with a high back, a cooler in the arm and pockets for everything else.

We paid $90 for it and used it on a recent trip to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, together with the OZtrail Getaway Deluxe Chair. Both are good chairs and really comfy. The catch is the size when packed.

Comfort
This is a really comfy chair. The seat and the arms are padded in two layers, and the high backrest supports your shoulders, so it’s a chair you settle into for the evening.
It’s also a good height to pair with a camp table. Next to our BCF roll up camp table, which stands 70 cm high, it sits just right for eating dinner.

Arm cooler and pockets
The chair is packed with features, and the best one is the zippered arm cooler. One arm opens up into an insulated compartment that keeps a can or a stubby cold and within reach, which is great for extra comfort on a warm afternoon.
The other arm has a mesh drink holder. On the side hangs a large pocket organiser for a phone, sunscreen or bug spray, and there’s another storage pocket on the back.

Frame and build
The Getaway is a quad-fold chair: the four legs cross over each other and the whole frame pulls open in one movement, then pushes back together to go in the bag. There’s nothing to assemble and no loose parts to lose.
The frame is 17.5 mm high-tensile steel with a powder-coated finish. The legs are tied together by cross-bracing hubs at the front and sides, and each leg ends in a wide plastic foot that spreads the load on soft ground. The steel is what gives the chair its 130 kg rating, and it’s also where most of the 4.2 kg comes from.
The seat, back and arms are 600D polyester in two tones of grey, padded in two layers. OZtrail gives the chair a 12-month warranty.

Packed size
Here’s the downside. Packed in its bag the chair measures about 95 × 14 × 14 cm and weighs 4.2 kg. We really liked the chairs, but found them a bit too bulky when packed to store in the back of our Prado, where they compete with the fridge, the drawers and everything else.
So it’s a chair for people with packing space to spare: van-lifers, anglers who drive to the water, or anyone with a ute tray or a trailer.

The OZtrail Getaway Deluxe Chair costs $50 more at full price. It raises the weight capacity from 130 kg to 200 kg and adds a bottle opener and a wine glass holder, and OZtrail describes its seat as larger and wider. It’s also bulkier when packed. If you don’t need those, the standard Getaway Chair gives you the same comfort and the same arm cooler for less.

Conclusion: OZtrail Getaway Chair
The OZtrail Getaway Chair is a really comfy chair that’s packed with features. It has a padded seat and high back, a zippered arm cooler, a mesh drink holder, plenty of pockets and a 130 kg rating, and it sits at a good height next to a camp table. It’s bulky when packed, at 95 × 14 × 14 cm and 4.2 kg, and we found it too big for the back of our Prado. I paid $90 for it. For van-lifers, anglers and anyone with packing space to spare, it’s a very good chair.

At 95 × 14 × 14 cm packed and 4.2 kg it’s bulky, so it suits van-lifers and anglers with packing space.

Yes, if you have the space. We paid $90, and Anaconda often discounts it, so it’s worth waiting for a sale. If space in the car is tight, look at a more compact chair.
