Cutlery is easy to forget until you’re eating dinner out of a pot. The Sea to Summit Frontier UL Cutlery Set is made for that moment: a spoon and a spork with long handles, in anodised aluminium that weighs almost nothing. We paid $36 for the long-handled spoon and spork version.

What You’re Getting
A long-handled spoon, a long-handled spork and a small clip that holds them together as one piece. Amazon also sells the set as a spork and knife.
You can buy the two pieces one at a time as well: the long-handled spork and the long-handled spoon each cost about $20 when we looked, so the set works out a little cheaper than buying both.

Weight and build
The two pieces and the clip weighed 34 g together on our scale, which is less than a single stainless steel spoon from the kitchen drawer. Each handle has slots cut out of it to save a little more.
They’re made of aircraft-grade aluminium that’s hard anodised. That gives them a matt grey surface that’s tougher than bare aluminium, and unlike plastic cutlery they don’t pick up the taste of last night’s curry.

The long handles
The long handles are the point of this version. They reach the bottom of a deep pot or a freeze-dried meal pouch without your hand going inside, so your knuckles stay out of the food.
The spork has short tines at the tip of a spoon-shaped bowl, enough to spear pasta or a piece of meat, and the spoon handles soup, porridge and anything runny. Between the two you can eat most camp meals. If you only ever use one of them, buying that one by itself saves a few grams and about half the price. What’s missing is a knife: this version doesn’t have one, so bring a pocket knife for cutting.

The clip, and using them as tongs
A small U-shaped clip slides over the ends of both handles and holds the spoon and the spork together, so they pack as one piece and you don’t end up with one of them at the bottom of the bag.
The clip has a second use. Leave it on the handle ends and the two pieces work like a pair of tongs. We’ve used them that way to serve salad from a bowl, which saves packing separate servers.

Packing
Clipped together, the set is long and thin. It’s too long for a small mug or a cook pot, so it needs a spot of its own: down the side of a pack, in a cutlery roll or with the kitchen bags in the car.

Conclusion: Sea to Summit Frontier UL Cutlery Set
The Sea to Summit Frontier UL Cutlery Set is a very light, well-made spoon and spork. The long handles reach the bottom of a pot or a pouch, the anodised aluminium weighs 34 g on our scale with the clip, and the clip both keeps them together and turns them into a pair of serving tongs. It’s pricey for two pieces, there’s no knife in this version, and the long handles need a long spot to pack. I paid $36 for it. For hikers and anyone who eats straight from the pot, it’s a very good set.

Yes, if weight matters to you. $36 is a lot for a spoon and a spork, but they weigh next to nothing and should last for years. For car camping, ordinary cutlery from the kitchen drawer does the same job for free.
