Buying Guides

About our buying guides

Each guide ranks gear we’ve bought and used ourselves, on weekends away and on longer 4WD trips. It opens with a comparison table of the key specs, our score and where to buy, then gives every product a short write-up with what it does well, where it falls short and who it suits best.

The scores come from our full reviews, where we rate each product on ease of use, performance, portability, durability and value. When we review something new, it goes into the matching guide, so the rankings stay current. If you’re after one product in more detail, every guide links to its full review.
