Some camp chairs are about packing small. The Kings Deluxe Armchair is about sitting comfortably. It’s a good chair with a padded seat, padded armrests and a cup holder, and it sits very comfortably. The catch is that it’s a bit on the bulky and heavy side.

What’s in the box
A heavy-duty folding armchair on a powder-coated steel frame rated to 200 kg, with thick padding on the seat, backrest and armrests, a flip-up drink holder and pivoting feet. The fabric is tough, easy-to-clean 600D Oxford. The frame folds up in one piece, so there’s nothing to assemble, and it packs into a polyester drawstring bag 97 cm long. Kings often sells it in value bundles. We paid about $75.

Setting it up
There’s nothing to assemble: the steel frame folds open and shut in one piece, so you unfold it and it’s ready to sit in. Packing up is the same in reverse. Folded, it stands up on its own, and then it goes into its long drawstring bag.

Comfort
This is where the Kings shines: it sits very comfortably. The seat, backrest and armrests have thick padding, and the chair keeps you sitting upright rather than sinking down into it. The padding is fairly firm, so it has a slightly stiffer feel than a softer, saggier chair.

Features
A flip-up drink holder sits within reach on the armrest. The steel frame stands on self-levelling, pivoting feet that follow the ground, so the chair stays stable on soft surfaces like sand, mud or grass, and on uneven ground at camp.

Size and weight
The comfort comes at a cost: the Kings is a bit on the bulky and heavy side, at 4.96 kg in its bag on our scale. Folded, it’s 97 × 21 × 18 cm in its carry bag, nearly a metre long, which makes it harder to fit into tight spaces. It just fits in our car, tucked away next to the fridge. That makes it a great chair for travellers with a lot of storage, less so if space is tight.

Deluxe or Essential?
We’ve also reviewed the cheaper Kings Essential Camping Chair. The Deluxe has thick padding, self-levelling pivoting feet and a 200 kg steel frame; the Essential is lighter, packs into a shorter bag and costs less. For a lighter chair that packs much smaller still, see the Moon Lence High Back.

Vs a high-back chair
We also took the Moon Lence High Back Camping Chair on the same trip. On its highest setting it gives about the same seat height, and it packs a lot smaller, but you assemble the frame and it has no armrests.

Conclusion: Kings Deluxe ArmchairConclusion
The Kings Deluxe Armchair is a heavy-duty chair that sits very comfortably: thick padding keeps you upright, the steel frame takes up to 200 kg, and pivoting feet keep it stable on soft or uneven ground. The padding is fairly firm, and it’s bulky and heavy, nearly a metre long when folded. It just fits in our car next to the fridge. For about $75 it’s a great chair for travellers with a lot of storage.

Yes. I paid about $75 for a chair that sits very comfortably. Just make sure you have room for it: it's bulky packed.
