Most of our camp lights are rechargeable, and that’s great until they’re all flat at the same time. That’s what this little work light is for. The Adventure Kings Illuminator LED work light runs on three AA batteries, so it can always go, as long as you have batteries lying around.

First impressions
It’s pretty small, which is good. At 208 mm long it packs away easily, and it doesn’t cost a whole lot: $10 each.
The rubber body is sturdy enough for a light that rides around in the back of a 4WD.

Power
It takes three AA batteries, in a compartment on the back. They’re not included, so add a set when you buy it. A set gives a few hours of light. That’s the reason I carry it. When my rechargeable lights are out of power, this one still works.

Hook and magnet
The hanging hook is handy. It swivels out of the back, and you can hang the light from a bar, a branch or an awning pole.

There’s also a magnet for sticking the light to the car. Unfortunately there aren’t several magnetic parts on the body itself, just one round magnet on the back. You have to stick it on with the back of the lamp.

Light output
There’s one setting: the red button switches the light on or off.
Don’t expect the world when it comes to light output. It lights things up just enough for a quick repair, or for finding some gear during the night.

For more light, our main work light is the rechargeable Smiling Shark magnetic work light, and the other lights we’ve tested are in our best camping lights guide.
