Jump to

The Boundless Voyage Ti1096T is a set of five titanium pans, from 350 to 800 ml, that nest inside each other. Packed away, the whole set takes up the space of one pan, but you still have five separate pans to cook and eat from. It weighed 477 g on our scale, and I paid $70 for all five.

What’s in the box

Five round titanium pans of 350, 500, 600, 700 and 800 ml, each with a wire handle that folds flat against the side. They stack one inside the other, and a mesh drawstring bag keeps the stack together in the pack or the car. There are no lids in the set. Each pan has the Boundless Voyage logo and its size printed on the side.

Five pans, one stack

The nesting is what makes this set. Each pan sits snugly inside the next size up, with the handles folded flat, so the five pans become one 800 ml pan in the pack. Laid out in a row, you can see how evenly the sizes step down, from 800 ml for a meal down to 350 ml for a side or a hot drink.

Having five separate pans is the real advantage over a pot set with one pot and a lid. You can cook in one, keep something warm in another and eat from a third, without washing up in between.

Weight and packing

All five pans weighed 477 g on our scale. That’s light for five pieces of cookware, though not as light as a single titanium pot, so it makes most sense when you’d use more than one pan. Nested in the mesh bag, the stack is low and round, well under half the height of a 1 litre water bottle, so it slips into a pack or a kitchen box easily.

Handles and build

Every pan has its own wire handle that swings out for cooking and eating, then folds back flat when you stack them. The handles are riveted to the side, and the titanium itself won’t rust and doesn’t give food or drinks a metal taste.

Thin titanium keeps the set light, and it won’t rust if the pans go back in the bag a little damp. They’re sized for one or two people, so for a group you’ll want a bigger pot as well.

Cooking at camp

The 500 ml pan in this set is the same pan that comes with the Boundless Voyage titanium pot and pan set, and we’ve cooked with that one over the fire: noodle soup on a grill above the fire pit, poured straight from the pan into a mug.

Titanium heats up fast, but the thin walls don’t spread heat as evenly as aluminium, so food can catch in the middle over a strong flame. It isn’t non-stick either, so add a little water or oil before you cook, keep the heat low and stir. For boiling, heating and simple one-pan meals it does the job well.

Next to a 1 litre pot

Next to the 1,000 ml pot from that set, you can see what the pans in this set are for. The pot boils water for drinks or a dehydrated meal, while a pan heats the food or doubles as a bowl. Five pans and one bigger pot make a light kitchen for two people, and the pans still nest away when you’re done.

Over an open fire, keep an eye on the pans: the thin bottom heats up quickly, and food catches if you leave it.

Cook sets compared

We’ve tested three Boundless Voyage titanium cook sets. The two pot and pan sets each have a pot with a pan that doubles as its lid: the 750 + 300 ml set for one person and the 1000 + 500 ml set for two. This set has no pot or lid, but five pans to cook and eat from.

Conclusion: Boundless Voyage Titanium Pan Set (Ti1096T)

The Boundless Voyage Ti1096T gives you five titanium pans that pack into the space of one. The sizes nest neatly, every pan has a folding handle, and the set weighed 477 g on our scale. There are no lids, and thin titanium needs a gentle flame, but for one or two people it’s a light, tough set that lasts. I paid $70 for all five, about $14 a pan.

Worth the money?Value 8.8

Yes. I paid $70 for all five, about $14 a pan, and titanium lasts for years. If you only ever need one pot, a single pot with a lid is cheaper.
