Setting it up
Wrap a strap around each tree, feed it back through its own end loop, and clip the carabiner at each end of the hammock into one of the loops along the strap. Each strap is 3 m long with 15 loops, which lets you set the height and the sag without tying a knot; Mountain Designs says it goes up in under a minute.

In the hammock
The material is great: it feels really solid and durable, and it’s comfortable to lie in. Rated to 225 kg, it takes two people, but two full-sized adults is snug and you tend to roll towards the middle; on your own it’s spacious lounging. I also like the colour. The dark green looks very good out in the bush.

Pocket and stuff sack
The stuff sack stays attached, and the hammock packs into it. For a double, it packs away pretty small. There’s also an accessories pocket with a Velcro flap, big enough for a phone or a book, so you don’t have to get up once you’re settled in.

Conclusion: Mountain Designs Double HammockConclusion
For $60, this is a lot of hammock. It’s big enough for two, it comes with everything you need to hang it, and the material feels solid enough to last. Two adults is a squeeze, though, and you’ll want your own tarp or net if the weather turns or the mozzies come out. If you’re after a good-looking double hammock without spending much, it’s an easy pick.
