Most multitools are made for fixing things. The Roxon Spark is made for camp: next to the pliers and the knife it has a saw, a fire starter and a whistle. We paid $40 for it, and the tool weighed 237 g on our scale. It’s an absolutely great tool, and the materials feel really premium for the price.

What You’re Getting
The Spark and a black belt pouch that closes with a press stud. The pouch is very strong, and feels like it will last as long as the tool. The tool is black all over, with textured, grippy handles and a pocket clip, so you can carry it either way.

Knife, saw and the small toolsKnife, saw & small tools
The Spark’s 14 tools, grouped:
- Pliers: needlenose pliers, regular pliers, and wire cutters for soft and for hard material.
- Blades: a knife and a saw.
- Drivers: a Phillips screwdriver and a flat screwdriver.
- Openers: a can opener and a bottle opener.
- Extras: a scraper, an awl, a reamer, a fire starter and a whistle.
The knife and the saw fold out from the outside of the handles, so you don’t have to open the pliers to get to them. The knife is a good size for a multitool, and the saw has big, coarse teeth for small branches and kindling. Both lock when they’re open.

Inside the handles are the small tools: a Phillips and a flat screwdriver, a can opener, a bottle opener, a scraper, an awl and a reamer. They lock into place too, which makes them safer to push on.
There are no scissors on the Spark. If you use those a lot, that’s the one thing you’ll miss.

Fire starter and whistle
This is where the name comes from. A flint rod slides out of the tool, and you scrape it to throw sparks onto your tinder. The handle of the rod is a whistle.
Neither replaces a lighter and a phone, but both still work when those are wet, flat or lost. On a tool that lives in the car or a pack anyway, they’re sensible extras to have.

Pliers and grip
Open the handles and you get needlenose and regular pliers, with two wire cutters: one for soft material and one for hard. They’re proper-size pliers, big enough to pull a stubborn tent peg or hold a hot pot.
The handles are nylon with glass fibre, with a textured surface that gives a secure grip, also with wet hands. It keeps the weight down, and nothing about it feels cheap: the whole tool feels really premium in the hand.

Size, weight and carry
Closed, the Spark measures 107 × 45 × 23 mm. The tool weighed 237 g on our scale, and 275 g in its belt pouch. That’s a full-size multitool: fine on a belt or in a pack, a bit much for a trouser pocket all day.
The steel is 2Cr13 and 3Cr13 with a black coating, and the box carries a 25-year warranty badge.

Roxon Spark vs Roxon M2
We bought both, and they suit different jobs. The Spark is the outdoor tool: bigger pliers, a larger knife, a saw, a fire starter and a whistle. The Roxon M2 is the pocket tool: half the weight, with scissors and a set of driver bits.

Yes. $40 is very little for a multitool with a saw, a fire starter and locking tools. If you want something for a pocket, with scissors and screwdriver bits, the Roxon M2 is the smaller choice.
