How to use the camping checklist

Run through the list a few days before you leave, so there is time to charge, wash or replace things. Tick each item when it is in the car, not when you find it in the shed. After the trip, add what you missed to “Your own items”, and the list gets better every time.

Not sure how much water and fuel the trip needs? Use the fuel and water calculator. If the car is filling up, the GVM and payload calculator shows how much weight you have left.

    Common questions

What should I take camping for the first time?

Cover the basics first: somewhere to sleep (tent or swag, mat, sleeping bag, pillow), a way to cook and eat (stove, gas, pot, plates, a fridge or esky), water, light (a head torch each), warm and wet weather clothing, and a first aid kit. The checklist above groups everything so you can tick it off as you pack.

How much water should I take camping?

Allow 5 litres per person per day: 3 litres for drinking and 2 litres for cooking and washing. In hot weather or on active days, allow 7 litres. Add a 25% buffer for remote trips.

Can I print the camping checklist?

Yes. Use the Print button above the list. The printed version shows only the lists you have switched on, with tick boxes, and includes any items you added yourself.
