On this page

The label on this bottle says “drinks stay hot to the last drop”, and that’s what it’s made for. The YETI Rambler 12 oz Bottle with HotShot Cap is a coffee-sized insulated bottle, 354 ml, with a cap you open with half a twist and drink from like a cup. Ours is black, and it’s the one we use for coffees on the road.

The HotShot cap

The cap is what sets this bottle apart. You give it a half twist until it clicks, and then you can sip from any side of the rim, the way you would from a mug. Twist it back and it’s closed. YETI calls it 100% leakproof, and in our use it’s definitely leakproof, so you can carry it in a bag or the car with confidence.

The cap is insulated too. YETI says it has an inch of insulation in it to keep your drink piping hot.

The lids are interchangeable. The bottle is compatible with other YETI caps, like the Chug Cap and the Straw Cap, so you can swap the top if you want to use it for water.

Insulation and build

The bottle is made of kitchen-grade 18/8 stainless steel, which YETI describes as puncture- and rust-resistant, with two walls and a vacuum between them. The No Sweat design keeps the outside dry, and the black DuraCoat coating is one YETI says won’t peel or crack.

Size, weight and cleaning

The Rambler 12 oz is about the size of a takeaway coffee cup, so it sits easily in a hand or a door pocket. It fits in the centre console of our Prado, which the bigger 26 oz doesn’t. It isn’t light, though: on our scale it weighed 428 g with the cap on, which is a lot for a bottle that holds 354 ml.

Next to the YETI Rambler 26 oz Straw Bottle you can see how small it is. The label says it’s dishwasher safe.

Conclusion: YETI Rambler 12 oz HotShot Bottle

The YETI Rambler 12 oz HotShot Bottle is a small, tough bottle for hot drinks, and the one we use for coffees on the road: 18/8 stainless steel, vacuum walls, an insulated cap that is definitely leakproof, and it goes in the dishwasher. It’s heavy for its size at 428 g and expensive at about $70. For more options, see our guide to the best camping water bottles.
