Kings Heavy Duty Seat Covers Review

A black Kings heavy duty seat cover pulled over the front seat of our Prado, covering the headrest in one piece
Jump to

Before we had our current seat covers, the front seats of our Prado wore these: the Adventure Kings Heavy Duty Seat Covers. They’re cheap, at $40 for a pair, and they keep dirt off the seats, but they aren’t great. They’re universal, so they sit very loose, and they make the seats look very large.

What’s in the box

Two black seat covers in 300 gsm polyester with a waterproof polyurethane coating, grey piping and a Kings logo. Each cover is one piece that pulls down over the backrest and the headrest together and over the seat base, with drawstring cords laced along the edges to pull it tight underneath. There’s a mesh pocket on the back. Kings sells them as universal, made to fit almost every vehicle.

What we like

  • Cheap: $40 for a pair
  • Waterproof-coated polyester
  • Mesh pocket on the back
  • Easy to wipe clean

What we don’t

  • Sits very loose on the seat
  • No separate headrest cover
  • Makes the seat look bulky

Fit on our Prado

This is where they fall down. We did get them over the front seats of the Prado, but because they’re universal, they don’t follow the shape of the seat: they sit very loose, with spare fabric around the sides. The drawstrings underneath pull the bottom in a little, but they can’t make a loose cover snug. And there’s no separate headrest cover: one piece goes over the backrest and the headrest together, which makes the seat look very large and boxy.

Material and pocket

The polyester is thick enough and has a waterproof coating, so it keeps mud, dust and wet clothes off the seats and wipes clean. It’s a thin, plain fabric, though, with no padding, so it doesn’t add anything to the comfort of the seat. The mesh pocket on the back is handy for a map or a phone cable. One cover weighed 732 g on our scale.

Kings or Skechers seat covers?

We replaced these with the Skechers Memory Foam Car Seat Covers, and they’re much better. The Skechers covers fit snug over our seats, have separate headrest covers, and the mesh and memory foam front feels premium. They cost more, but if you want covers that look and feel good, they’re worth it; the Kings covers only make sense if you just want the seats protected for as little as possible.

Conclusion: Kings Heavy Duty Seat Covers

The Kings Heavy Duty Seat Covers are cheap, waterproof-coated covers that keep dirt off your seats, and $40 for a pair is good value on paper. But they aren’t great: they’re universal, so they sit very loose on our Prado’s seats, and with no separate headrest cover they make the seats look very large. If protection is all you need, they’ll do; for a good fit, the Skechers covers we use now are much better.

Only if you just want to protect the seats on a budget. I paid $40 for the pair, but they sit loose and look bulky; the Skechers covers we use now fit much better.

FAQ: Kings heavy duty seat covers

Do the Kings seat covers fit a Prado?
They go over the front seats of our 2006 Prado, but they sit very loose. They’re universal covers, made to fit almost any vehicle, so they don’t follow the shape of any seat closely.
Do the Kings seat covers have headrest covers?
No. One piece goes over the backrest and the headrest together, which makes the seat look very large.
Kings or Skechers seat covers?
We had the Kings covers first and replaced them with the Skechers memory foam covers. They cost more, but they fit snug, have separate headrest covers and feel much better to sit on.
