Self-inflating mattresses all promise the same thing: open the valve, wait, and you have a bed. How long the waiting takes, and how much mattress you get at the end, is where they differ.

The San Hima self-inflating mattress does well on both. It’s 10 cm thick, so it gives a lot of support, and the inflation is incredibly quick, much faster than the other mats I’ve tested. I paid $90 for it.
What You’re Getting
A single self-inflating mattress from San Hima with a polyurethane foam core, 10 cm thick and 184.5 × 54.5 cm. The top is polyester pongee and the base has a non-slip finish. There are snap buttons along the edges for joining mattresses together, and it comes with securing straps and a storage bag.
The good
- 10 cm thick, with a lot of support
- Inflates incredibly quickly
- Non-slip base
- Snap buttons join two together, which we did for car camping
- Quiet: no creaking when you move
- Straps and storage bag included
The not-so-good
- Small at 184.5 × 54.5 cm: easy to fall off a mat this thick
- Bulky when packed: for the car, not the backpack
- At $90, not the cheapest self-inflating mat

Comfort and support
This is a good mat because it’s so thick. The 10 cm of foam provides a lot of support, and you stay well off the ground, also when you lie on your side. The surface is flat and you don’t sink in, and it’s quiet: there’s no creaking when you turn over, which you do get with some air pads.

I stacked it with three other self-inflating mats we have: the Elegear sleeping pad, the Naturehike D-Series and the Weisshorn mattress. The San Hima is twice as thick as the 5 cm Naturehike, and you feel that difference straight away.

The only thing is the size. At 184.5 × 54.5 cm, the dimensions are quite small: the Naturehike D-Series is 200 × 63 cm. And because the mattress is so thick, it’s much easier to fall off the edge than with a thin mat. If you’re tall or you move a lot at night, keep that in mind.
Inflating and packing up
The inflation is the best thing about this mattress after the thickness. Open the valve at the corner and it fills by itself, and it’s incredibly quick: much faster than the other self-inflating mats I’ve tested. The Naturehike D-Series took a really long time on its first go. The San Hima didn’t.

The valve cap has two parts. With only the outer cap open, a one-way flap lets air in and keeps it there, which is handy for topping up. Unscrew the whole thing and the air rushes out for packing up. Then you roll the mattress from the far end, put the two straps around it and slide it into the storage bag.

Base and snap buttons
The underside has a dotted non-slip finish, so the mattress stays where you put it on a tent floor or in a swag. Along the edges are snap buttons. When we used these for car camping, we connected two together with the snap buttons, and that helped: the pair makes one wide bed that stays together, and there’s much less chance of rolling off.

Size, weight and build
The packed box measures 62 × 19.5 × 19 cm and weighs 3.15 kg. A 10 cm foam mattress doesn’t roll up small, so this is one for the car: a swag, a ground tent or a camping stretcher. The foam sits inside polyester pongee fabric, which is easy to wipe clean.

Conclusion: San Hima Self-Inflating Mattress 10cm
The San Hima self-inflating mattress is thick, supportive and very quick to set up. The 10 cm of foam gives a lot of support, the inflation is much faster than the other mats I’ve tested, and the non-slip base and snap buttons are useful extras. The single is quite small and easy to fall off, which connecting two solves, it’s bulky when packed, and at $90 it’s not the cheapest. For car camping, it’s a very good mattress.
For the other mats we’ve tested, see our best camping mattresses guide.
A 10 cm self-inflating mattress with a lot of support and the quickest inflation of the mats I’ve tested.
It’s quite small at 184.5 × 54.5 cm, so it’s easy to fall off, and joining two with the snap buttons helps. A very good pick for car campers and swag sleepers.
- Car campers
Yes. I paid $90, which is more than some other self-inflating mats, but the 10 cm of support and the very quick inflation make up for it.
