After using the plain Kings canvas bags and the Slimbridge bags in our drawers, we upgraded to the Kings Plus Clear Top Bags. They’re the same idea, a soft canvas bag with a clear zip lid so you see what’s inside, but padded, lined and better finished. We bought a small one for $25 and a large one for $30, and they live in the Titan drawers in the back of our Prado.
What’s in the box
A grey canvas storage bag with a clear PVC lid, in a small or a large size. The walls are 370gsm canvas with open-cell foam padding inside and a smooth blue PVC lining, there’s an adjustable divider, and a full-length zip with rubber pull tags runs around the lid. Moulded rubber handles at both ends make it easy to lift out of a drawer. Both sizes are 40.5 cm long and 15 cm high, made to fit Adventure Kings drawers, and there’s also a tall version.
What we like
- Clear lid shows what’s inside
- Padded sides, PVC lining
- Lining wipes clean
- Adjustable divider
- Sturdier zips than older Kings
- Sized for 4WD drawers
What we don’t
- Soft sides sag with heavy loads
- Not fully waterproof
- Zips stiff when new

Inside: padding, lining and dividerInside
This is what sets the Plus bags apart from plain canvas ones. The open-cell foam in the walls gives them a bit of shape and some protection for what’s inside, and the smooth PVC lining wipes clean if a bottle of oil or sauce leaks, which plain canvas doesn’t. The divider attaches with Velcro, so you can move it to suit what you pack and stop small items sliding to one end on rough tracks.

Zips and handles
The zips are a step up from the older Kings bags, where the zip sometimes got stuck. The Plus bags have full-length SBS zips with rubberised Kings Plus pull tags, and they handle a tightly packed bag much better. When they’re new, they’re a bit stiff to pull around the corners until the material softens. The moulded rubber handles at each end are easy to grab when you lift a bag out of a drawer.

In our drawers
Both sizes are 40.5 cm long, so they sit side by side or end to end in our Titan drawers, and the clear lids mean we can see the food or gear in each one without unzipping anything. They’re soft-sided bags, though: there’s no hard base, so a heavy, uneven load makes them sag or lose shape. They’re also not fully waterproof, as the zip seams aren’t sealed, and like any clear PVC, the lid can harden, yellow or crack over time if it’s left in the sun, so they’re best inside the car, not on the roof rack.

Small or large?
Both are the same length and height; the large is twice as wide. The small suits narrow items like spices, cutlery and tools, or one side of a drawer; the large holds bulkier things like food packs or clothes.

Compared with the Kings Canvas and Slimbridge bagsCompared with other bags
We’ve used two plainer clear top bags in the same drawers. The Kings Canvas Clear Top Bag is plain 400gsm canvas, light and cheap, but its zip sometimes stuck. The Slimbridge bags have stronger-feeling canvas and come as a pack of three. The Kings Plus bags are heavier, but padded, lined and with better zips, which is why we upgraded.

Conclusion: Kings Plus Clear Top BagsConclusion
The Kings Plus Clear Top Bags are a real step up from plain canvas drawer bags: a clear lid, padded walls with a wipe-clean PVC lining, an adjustable divider, rubber handles and zips that cope with tight packing. They’re heavier than plain bags, soft-sided and not fully waterproof, so keep them inside the car. I paid $25 for the small and $30 for the large, and they’re the bags we upgraded to.
