Drawers in the back of a 4WD fill up fast, and loose gear ends up rattling around. We use canvas storage bags with a clear top to keep things sorted, and the Slimbridge set of three lives in our Titan drawers, packed with food, emergency kit items, headlamps and pegs.
We used the Kings canvas clear top bags before these, so this review also compares the two.

What’s in the box
A set of three heavy-duty 400gsm canvas storage bags, each 40.5 × 25 × 15 cm, with a clear ABS plastic top, double zippers and reinforced stitched handles. We paid $42 for the pack of 3, so about $14 a bag.

What we don’t
- Soft sides, little crush protection
- Clear lid can scratch and scuff

In the drawer
They fit our Titan drawers well. We use them to pack food and emergency kit items, headlamps, pegs and the like. The clear top shows what’s inside, so you grab the right bag without unzipping every one, and the double zippers close smoothly.
Because the sides are soft canvas, not rigid plastic like a tub, the bags squeeze into tight or awkward spaces, such as under a bunk or into a packed car boot. The flip side is that they give fragile items less crush protection than a hard plastic tub or an ammo box.

Canvas, lid and weather
The heavy-duty 400gsm canvas resists abrasion and general wear. It’s stronger than on the Kings bags, and it feels nicer. Each bag weighs 252 g on our scale, a touch more than the Kings.

The clear ABS plastic top is the weaker part: it can scratch and scuff, and it can turn brittle after a long time in harsh sun and extreme temperatures. The bags are water-resistant against light moisture, damp ground and the odd splash, but not waterproof, so they can soak through in standing water or heavy rain.

Compared with the Kings bags
All three are 40.5 cm long, have a clear zip-top lid and fit our Titan drawers. We like the Slimbridge better than the plain Kings bag: the canvas is stronger and feels nicer, though the Kings is a little lighter. Since then we have upgraded to the Kings Plus bags, which are padded and PVC-lined, with a divider and sturdier zips.
